Canvas and saving
The canvas organizes your work into nodes. Text nodes provide prompts, reference nodes provide images or videos, and generation nodes use those inputs to create results.
Generate an image from references
- Open Canvas and add Text, Reference, and Image nodes.
- Enter your prompt in the Text node.
- Drop your image onto the Reference node, or double-click the node to choose a file. Wait for the upload to finish.
- Connect the text output to the Image node's prompt input, and the reference image output to its reference image input.
- Select the Image node, check the generation settings, aspect ratio, resolution, quality, and quantity, then generate.
If a connected text or reference node is empty, you will be asked to fill it before generating. With multiple reference images, explain each image's role in the prompt—for example, which defines the product and which is only a composition reference.
Video nodes also have inputs such as reference image, first frame, and last frame. Check the current model and the settings available in the interface; models do not necessarily support the same input combinations.
Check whether the canvas is saved
Creating a canvas, opening a local file through the canvas menu, or using “Create similar” does not automatically create a saved canvas record in your account. To keep your work, use Export NodeArt canvas in the canvas file menu.
A saved canvas opened from Assets automatically saves later changes. Watch for Saving, Autosaved, or Autosave failed, and check that saving has finished before leaving.
Export a local copy
- Open the canvas file menu.
- Choose Export NodeArt canvas.
- Check your browser's downloads for the
.nodeartfile.
The file stores nodes, connections, the viewport, settings, and media references. It does not bundle all original image and video files. Download important results separately. Some media references may be unavailable if you share the file with another account or delete the referenced media.
When leaving an unsaved canvas, you may see Export before leaving? Choose Continue editing to return to the canvas. Leave without exporting discards the current unsaved changes.
Save a canvas to your account
- Export the canvas as a
.nodeartfile. - Open Assets, click Import canvas, and select the file.
- After the import finishes, find its canvas card and click Open canvas.
Further changes to that canvas will be saved automatically. Canvas cards in Assets also offer Export so you can keep a local copy.
Handle a save failure or conflict
If you see Autosave failed, keep the page open, check your connection, and use Retry. Export a local copy first if you have important changes.
Save conflict means another version of the canvas is available remotely. Choose Load remote or Save as copy. Loading the remote version replaces your current unsaved content, so decide which version you need to keep first.
Open Shortcuts on the canvas for help with zooming, panning, selecting, and connecting nodes. For downloading and managing generated results, see Assets and account.
